Alt Summit: Pretty Paper

February 3, 2014

You wouldn’t believe the GIANT stack of cards I took home from Alt Summit this year. Cards of every shape and variety, but I’ve decided not to do a big roundup of the cards. I just wanted to share my VERY favorites and share a little about why I think they are the best. I will say that I created cards for many clients that were at Alt this year and I didn’t put any of MY designs in this round-up because that would be cheating. I’ll be sure to post some of them in my portfolio soon though so that I can show them off. I will also be posting on our new fancy CooperHouse cards later this week.

5) Caitlin Connolly @ladyhue

Now, technically, this isn’t a “business card”, but Caitlin was handing out these GORGEOUS prints of her work and I thought it was genius. Also, I was having one of those “overwhelmed” in the middle of the crowd moments at the Green Party and Caitlin just sat down next to me and introduced herself. We chatted about art for a moment and then she spontaneously laid some wisdom on me about creativity (which will be a WHOLE OTHER BLOG POST), handed me a beautiful painting, and then was gone. Definitely one of my favorite Alt Summit memories.

4) Fraser & Parsley @fraserparsley

This delicate card is digitally printed, but even up close it’s hard to tell. I think the real genius is the beautiful and simple illustration and the simple palette. Josie Parsley is exactly like her card, elegant and yet, totally accessible. Three cheers for pulling off digital and making it look really perfect.

3) A Thousand Threads @1000threads

This gorgeous letterpress card actually feels like an invitation. That’s really what a card is, if you think about it. An exquisite invitation that gives you a window into what you can expect at the party and Laicie Heeley’s party does not disappoint. I like the restrained palette here and the added color of the ribbon. A very well executed card, with a hint of whimsy.

2) Traci Zeller Designs @tracizeller

Traci Zeller was a lunchmate on Day 1. I obsessed about her adorable necklace and we chatted only briefly, but… POW. This card left an impression. This letterpress card was EXTREMELY well executed. Perfect palette, paper, and the pattern on the back was the icing on the cake. Can you tell I love square cards?

1)Melissa Esplin @melissapher

My very very very favorite card was from Melissa Esplin. She is a wildly talented calligrapher, and also just one of the nicest people. She gave out these HAND WRITTEN cards that were absolutely perfect. I want to frame this tiny card. Every stroke is perfect, and she did this like 200 times or something. I love that she made these, I love that she made them about her audience. She didn’t hand out cards that said “I’m Awesome” (even though she totally is!), she made it about spreading around some positivity and fun. Absolute perfection.

My very favorite cards always indicate a LOT of personal investment and that handmade touch. So, after it was all said and done I suppose the common thread of these designs is just a lot of love, a lot of intention, and excellent execution. Hats off, ladies !

Thanks for reading,

I really love the pattern on Tracy’s card! How unique and intricate. This is one of the best roundups of Alt cards I’ve seen thus far. I would love to see a roundup of the cards you designed. :) Thank you so much for sharing!
