I went to my first Oklahoma City Thunder game last night. It wasn’t just ANY game… It was a battle between my former home town, Denver, and my new hometown, OKC. OKC prevailed, thanks to some seriously amazing playing by Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. In general I’m not really a sports fan, but being at a game is SO DIFFERENT than watching on television. The energy of the people around me was infectious and by the end of the night, I had a little crush on James Harden and I found myself saying “Woooo!” more than a few times.
It was such a tight game -- we beat the Denver Nuggets in overtime!

Oh, and I got my Oklahoma City shirt at Blue Seven. Thank you to all my Twitter friends who gave me wardrobe advice. :) Although, I felt pretty overdressed next to the Thunder Girls. Call me old fashioned but, it was weird to me that they had this minister come out to bless the game, and then sent scantily clad ladies to run out right after and shake their butts all over the floor. I kept seeing these little boys watching with wide-eyed wonder as the Thunder Girls were bounding around in the aisles. Hilarious.
On a slightly serious note… The people who were honking and flipping out on people in the parking garage were SCARY. I know everyone wants to get home after a game, but FOR REAL, we had a lady threaten to “M*!#@^ F@%$!* Kill” us for pulling out of our parking space beside her before she did. Absurd. Maybe she was an angry Denver fan!
All in all though, it was a super fun experience and I loved how proud everyone was when OKC won. They were still chanting “OKC! OKC!” as they poured out of the stadium. My little nephews (who know about my general apathy towards sports) were at the game as well and when they heard what a good time I had, they said… “Welcome to the dark side!”
I probably am not going to be a sports lover, but I will definitely pay more attention when the game is on at the pub or wherever… if only just to see how my boyfriend with the beard is doing. ;)
