DESIGN: DESIGN CRUSH

Our design relationship with Design Crush goes back a few years. CooperHouse helped Kelly with her jump from Blogger to WordPress a couple years ago, and last year with her redesign. The unique thing about blog design is that because it’s such a rapidly changing medium, you have to keep your design fresh in order to remain relevant. Kelly really understands that and she’s always looking for the best way for her site to reflect that. Her logo was designed by the brilliant and talented Kathleen Shannon of Braid Creative (and also  Jeremy & Kathleen).

We simply took that logo as a jumping off point to create her site design. (You can read more about this logo and Kathleen’s design here – Identity: Design Crush)

Her previous site design was all white, and Kelly decided to switch it up for a bit with a change to charcoal gray and some punchy little bright spots of color sprinkled throughout.

When you first look at her site, it’s a pleasing monochromatic palette.

As you explore her navigation, her colors flicker to life.

I don’t write very much about all the development that goes into these sites, because it’s really Tim’s area of genius. He’s responsible for making everything work perfectly. Kelly’s site was a unique development challenge for us, just because of her popularity & traffic, but we’ve had a wonderful working relationship with her and we’ve learned so much together along the way. We’re already looking forward to whatever design update she has planned next.
